We have some exciting news for working families in Nebraska!
On Tuesday, our Paid Sick Leave for Nebraskans campaign was notified by the Nebraska Secretary of State that the issue has been certified for the general election ballot! This means that voters will get the chance in November to ensure that hardworking Nebraskans can earn and use paid sick days when they need them most.
Access to paid sick leave is a need for all Nebraskans. Nearly 80% of school-age children in Nebraska have working parents. And yet, most of those hardworking Nebraskans don’t have access to paid sick days. Without paid sick leave, caregivers are faced with the impossible choice of sending their sick child to school or losing a day’s pay. Sending a child to school risks making their child sicker and infecting other kids, but skipping work means missing out on a paycheck needed for prescriptions, to put food on the table or pay rent.
No Nebraskan should have to choose between their paycheck and their health or the health of their family.
Joined by local organizations, advocates and Nebraskans like you, we know this issue can pass on the ballot this fall. Letting working people earn and use sick days is common sense. And now, we get to vote for paid sick leave in November! It’s time to care.
It’s time for paid sick leave for Nebraskans!
