Celebrating Aubrey Mancuso, Deputy Director

This year as we celebrate our 35th anniversary, we are shining a light on each staff member as they each celebrate their anniversaries of joining the Women’s Fund. Our team is a robust group of individuals who are committed to working toward our vision for a community where all women and girls can reach their full potential. We have highs and lows in this work, but we also have a lot of joy, innovation and growth. We are fortunate to have some of our city’s most brilliant minds on the team, who are experts in their areas of practice, who work intentionally to unravel systems of oppression–from themselves and the world at large. Follow along as we dig a little deeper into who each member of this team is, what they bring to the work and how they stay focused on joy while dismantling the f***ery.

Aubrey Mancuso joined the Women’s Fund as Deputy Director in March 2022. Around the office, you’ll find Aubrey smiling warmly, sighing with exasperation and helping everyone with everything. Aubrey’s colleagues recently voted her “most likely to be the first to raise her hand to support an issue, a cause or a person.”

Aubrey has also worked for former U.S. Senator Jeff Bingaman of New Mexico and at a nonprofit providing supportive housing to people struggling with chronic homelessness in New York City. She has a master’s degree in social work from Columbia University and a bachelor’s degree from Creighton University. When she’s not working, she likes to spend time with her three kids and two cats.

Here’s a little bit more about our steadfast, kind, patient and supportive Deputy Director:

Q: How long have you been at the WFO?
AM: Three years!

Q: Where are you from?
AM: Albuquerque, New Mexico AKA Burque!

Q: Do you have any pets? What are their names?
AM: Two 20-pound (each!) orange cats named Whispers and Rockstar.

Q: What are your “big 3” astrology signs (moon/rising/sun)?
AM: I honestly have no idea. EYE ROLL EMOJI
(Editor’s note: Aubrey is a Taurus moon/Libra rising/Capricorn sun)

Q: What is your Enneagram number? Or Meyers-Briggs? Etc.?
AM: Enneagram 2 – the Helper.

Q: What are your top 5 favorite albums?
AM: Albums? Are those still a thing? My all-time faves are the Indigo Girls and  Brandi Carlisle.

Q: What are your top 5 favorite movies?
AM: Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Dirty Dancing.

Q: Do you have a secret talent?
AM: I can flip a stack of coasters with the back of my hand and catch them in the air.

Q: Give me two truths and a lie:
AM: 1. I am a fan of competitive eating.
        2. The house I grew up in is famous.
        3. I have never traveled to another country. (lie)

Q: Do you have a moment that really galvanized your feminism?
AM: So many! One in recent history was having a conversation with a woman leader  in our community about the “me too” movement and hearing her say that the younger generation makes too big of a deal about sexual harassment. Bleh.

Q: Do you have a favorite Women’s Fund memory?
AM: Laughing hysterically while cleaning up from an event and accidentally dropping and breaking everything.

Q: Can you share something funny or cringeworthy from your career?
AM: I once had to dress up as “Birdie” when I worked at McDonald’s.

Q: How do you find joy or hope these days?
AM: Spending time with people I love and laughing.

Q: What are your currently reading/listening to?
AM: “The Anxious Generation” for my book club.

Q: What would be the title of your memoir?
AM: I bet you don’t know all you don’t know about that.

Q: What’s an unpopular opinion you have?
AM: Very divisive—but I’m firmly on team Crocs are hideous.
