Sex trafficking occurs when someone uses force, fraud or coercion to cause another person to engage in sexual activity for the promise of anything of value. With a minor (under 18 years old), any sexual activity in exchange for something of value is trafficking. Sex traffickers often use violence, threats, lies and other forms of coercion to compel a victim to engage in commercial sex acts against their will.
