ACTION THREE
Decolonize Your Bookshelf
White, European, cisgender male authors have dominated literature for a looooong time. The act of decolonizing your bookshelf is about actively resisting and casting aside the colonialist ideas of narrative, storytelling and literature. Who is telling the stories you read? What do they have to gain from dominating the narrative? If you are white, take today to examine your bookshelf and that of your children, if applicable. How many authors of color can you find? Are there any Native American writers? Any femme-identifying or LGBTQ authors?
