In 2023, we advocated BIG for effective public policy solutions through the Nebraska Legislature. While we continue to make great progress and advancements toward gender equity, it has never been clearer that the personal and political are one—with lives, bodies and futures being made into battlegrounds. As such, we joined collaborative ballot initiative efforts to pass Paid Sick Leave for Nebraskans and Protect Our Rights to abortion. Our work remains in community with others. Together, we can create the real and lasting change for anyone who is impacted by gender inequities.
A few additional highlights of our collective impact in 2023:
- Invested in 22 local organizations working to create communities that are free from gender-based violence and who are expanding access to sexual and reproductive health care.
- Advocated for effective public policy solutions by providing testimony on 52 bills during the legislative session. Of the 38 bills we supported, nine bills became law. Also, we defeated another six-week abortion ban!
- Other highlights included another record year of Circles applications and beginning to fundraise for our new EC Vending Machine Project.
