Unequal Plains:
EXAMINING THE ECONOMIC GENDER GAP IN NEBRASKA
While progress has been made, persistent—and often deepening—barriers remain to advancing gender equity in our state. Attacks on reproductive rights, rising costs of care and housing, and widening economic gaps continue to disproportionately impact women and gender expansive people across Nebraska.
Grounded in statewide data and the lived experiences of Nebraskans, this report pairs quantitative analysis with powerful stories to reveal how economic insecurity intersects with caregiving, housing and health. It underscores a clear truth: our systems were not built for everyone—especially Black, Native, Latina, disabled, LGBTQ+, rural, and older women, and those navigating multiple marginalized identities.
Designed to inform and inspire action, the report includes concrete steps forward and invites everyone to join in advancing gender equity and opportunity for all.
